Who defines you as a woman? That question in our culture arguably evokes more division today than at any time in history. Who has the answer? Is it the feminists? Is it the mysogynists? The gender confusers? Is it your mother?
There is one simple answer, like a mighty wind that demolishes the fog of this war.
Who defines you as a woman? God! Specifically, the God of the Bible, the God who made you.
Upon what basis should we believe this? He has given us this truth in His word, the Bible.
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. (Psalm 100:3, KJV)
What do we learn here about why God has the right to define you as a woman? It is God who hath made us. Doesn’t the One who made us get to define us?
If all that we’ve ever heard from the world is confusing on this subject, doesn’t this clarify things? God made you.
This verse also tells us who has not made us!
Not we ourselves.
We have not created ourselves. Therefore, we do not get to define ourselves. We don’t even own ourselves!
Who owns us?
Further, this verse tells us that our Creator owns us. We are His people. Is this fair? You might rebel against this thought, but it’s hard to dispute if we believe that God created us. So if He made you and owns you, who gets to define you as a woman?
The simple answer must be God. God created us, God owns us, and therefore He defines us.
My hope and plan is to write a lot more on this subject, but I wanted to build on this sure, simple foundation.
It may be simple but it ain’t easy!
In my 44 years as a Christian, believing this and acting upon it has been my biggest struggle. It has proved beyond a doubt that there are supernatural forces that war against this truth with lies. These lies are fueled by my corrupted nature and by the Devil himself.
God made me, He owns me, and He defines me. Why is it so hard to accept this? It should be easy! (More about this in future posts. . .)
It is trustworthy.
I have come to trust this and lean on this in the almost 73 years I have been breathing on this planet. It has been the greatest source of blessing in my life. This may seem like a small idea, but believe me, it is HUGE. It has the ability to transform your life and my life.
Who defines you as a woman? God.
Application–what does this mean for you?
If God has the right to define what He created, are you going to agree or disagree with what He says about you in His word?
